L.I.P.S. Ladies Inclusion by Pestering Scheme

Ever feel like women are under-represented in the media? You just watched a nail biting WNBA game on TV the night before, but the news radio only covers men’s college basketball games the next morning? You drive to work for an hour and the rock station plays one or two, or maybe NO female artists? You read an entire book about creative geniuses and realize 3/4 through that NO women are mentioned?

Do you feel powerless to make a change? You want to do something, you just don’t know what to do. You don’t have money to donate, you don’t have the time to organize or volunteer? You march and protest here and there, and though fulfilling on a philosophical level, you feel like your contribution is minuscule in proportion to your efforts?

Imagine if you could make a change by PESTERING these institutions for just a few seconds every month?

Welcome to L.I.P.S !! (Ladies Inclusion by Pestering Scheme) Every week, I’m going to post the contact information of one organization who is guilty of excluding women. It may be radio station, playlist, newspaper article, podcast or other media format. The point is to OVERWHELM their resources until they throw their hands up and say “my GOSH it would be MORE cost effective to just include these damn women already. ” Make one call, and/or one email, and share with a friend or two.

  • Contact info for 1 institution per month posted on bottom of this page for you to call and/or email
  • Bookmark this page, sign up for newsletter reminder. follow my instagram or facebook or Twitter
  • Share with friends/families
  • The whole point is POWER in numbers, so please don’t start your own, it may dilute our cumulative magic!!
  • This is meant to be EASY and QUICK for the MOST possible people. I love more than anyone to get in discussions about feminism, social perceptions, changing baseline cultural norms, but this is NOT that forum.

As a small business owner, it’s excruciating sorting through spam calls, faxes, emails and paper mail.

I. Just. Don’t. Have. The. Resources. I wish I had a staff again like the pre pandemic days. But I’d have to PAY someone to sort through it all. This makes me realize I could use a Pestering Scheme on a cause which has been so personal and dear to me for my entire life.

I spend 2 hours a day commuting to and from work. Every day I hear sports news that’s mysteriously absent of women’s sports and music stations mysteriously absent of female artists. And though this deficit blares like 10″ speakers to my feminist sensitive ears, it’s probably not on everyone’s radar. It’s hard to see what’s MISSING. However, I think “unnoticed” exists only on a conscious level. What unconscious message gets passed to women young and old? Our nieces, daughters, moms, grandmas? Is there a drone humming in the background that women don’t matter? Does our collective confidence erode?

I often try to raise awareness of female exclusion by calling or emailing or posting on these stations’ social media, but I’m almost always ignored or trolled.

If we can all stick together and overwhelm these offendors, we don’t have to worry about people who are incapable of “seeing” exclusion, incapable of heightened awareness, incapable of grasping equality. Sure we WANT to make a point, but we can make that point later. Ladies Inclusion By Pestering will advance equality by using a timeless and successful formula. They simply CANNOT AFFORD TO EXCLUDE US because they CAN’T AFFORD $$$ TO ANSWER ALL OUR PHONE CALLS AND DEAL WITH ALL OF OUR EMAILS. Let’s force these businesses to make a cost effective business decision.

PESTER #1: March 28th through April 2021- Alt Nation on SiriusXM Why? Of the bands featured in the header of their SiriusXM page less than 1 of 20 musicians are women, and that says it all. It accurately reflects how much air time they allot to female music artists. They are NOT welcome of this criticism. I’ve gotten a backlash of trolling when I’ve commented on their fb page. Before I was trying to prove a point. Now I just want to overwhelm their resources with your help. Say what you want! An easy suggestion is, “you need to feature more women, they are poorly under represented on your station”. Remember, there’s NO need to engage them, I don’t want to exhaust you, the goal is to make the biggest change with the least amount of energy. Power in numbers. Tell all your friends and family, share share share, and then save your energy for the next PESTER next month.
