When I got back from New Mexico, my writing binge was still kicking. I wrote this one in about 2 days. First came a Midi riff I stumbled upon when messing with the Oxegyn Keyboard my next door neighbor Don gave me. Thank you Don!! I actually thought at that point I was “dry”. No pun intended. I physically could not stop drinking water after spending a week in the desert. I vowed that if I couldn’t write, I’d at least keep developing my music tech skills if only to plug in and poke around cubase for a few minutes everyday. One thing I’ve been slack on is learning how to integrate this Oxygen keyboard, so I plugged in and played around with the sounds and notes. It’s freaking CRAZY. You have one simple looking piano plugged into the computer, but the computer has HunDRedS of sounds you can choose when you press on a key.
I almost abandoned this song before I heard the first lyrics or melody rise from the riff. It was too easy! I felt like I was cheating. All I had to do was press and hold a few notes. All those other sounds (except the drums) were built in. But before I could talk myself out of it, alas, there it was…..”I am invisible. You look past me like I am air”….. I mixed down the music and sang over it the next day in the car, as posted on Instagram. When I got home that night I was exhausted, so I figured out how to play it on my acoustic guitar, and that’s how I finished the rest of the song. “Ordinary and typical. You don’t notice, you don’t seem to care….” Because song production takes so much longer than writing, I though I’d give a little sneak peak here, representing both worlds of the acoustic and the electronic.
