Reverse And Drive

In regards to Moxie Starparks 2nd cd, I must admit, committing to finally digitizing and releasing an album that was recorded 20 years ago was a struggle. Simply put, I don’t want to feel like I’m moving backwards. It’s not a question of nostalgia, I’m as sentimental as anyone, and especially about that band Moxie Starpark. It’s just that I feel the only direction I want to move in creatively is forward. Just keep that gear in sport mode drive and GO!

I finally came to terms with the Moxie 2nd CD because if there’s one thing that bothers me more than moving backwards, it’s unfinished business. I’m not talking about abandoned projects. This is not that boring book you could only read half of. Moxie is unfinished, not abandoned. And with that realization, in addition to encouragement from old fans, I am at peace with this new-old endeavor.

In the interim, I stumbled upon old unreleased Pollynoses material. Damn, I wrote Figurine just a month or so before the towers fell and sprinkled ash and papers over my block. That’s a long ass time ago, and it was surreal putting a little bit of time into releasing that track in April 2021.

But the most joyful thing has happened in my slivers of time. I realized while organizing my phone’s gallery I had recorded a bunch of video snippets, and it does appear that there’s enough material for an album! A new album. Awwww geeez, I still have to write it, but…it’s there! Had I a photo of (*) in progress, you would have seen a clothesline strung across my living room from which a few dozen papers hung. Each was a song in various stages, some scribbled outlines with blocks crossed out, others neatly written or typed out and finished. But here, hopefully, is a photo of solo cd #2 in progress! A car can’t go in reverse and drive simultaneously, so it’s a good thing I’m a homo sapiens.
