Mas Caliente Que Sol

Writing & arranging done. Ready to record. Check, check, and check.

Fyi music nerds: This guitar is nylon. I never liked classical guitars because I perceived them to be cheap beginner guitars, with cheap feeling nylon strings. Earlier this year, when I was in New Mexico an old nylon Ovation was all I had to record with. The depth, fullness and beauty of how that sound played back…omg, I was blown away. When I got home from my vacation, I realized I had found a classical guitar a few years ago that I’d never used.

Disclaimer: This is a work in progress. I’m trying to secure funds to record professionally that which I can’t record myself. BlindingTwinkle is a blog about process, not perfection. Thank you.

Women Represented On The Radio

So nice to be taken seriously!

On my long commute home, I listen to Spotify. However, I forgot to charge my phone the other night, so yesterday morning and evening I drove to the sounds from FM radio. I got stuck on one station. Alt 92.3 in NYC. My head thrashed, my heart pumped, my eyes welled up on the sensitive songs. As I’ve noted, it’s hard to register what’s missing sometimes. Not ONE artist featured was female. So I called the studio (no answer) . This morning I tuned in again. I was finding it hard to let go. Dudes, dudes, more dudes. Now we’re going on 2-1/2 hours of radio time with NO female airplay. I called the studio a few time before someone picked up. It was the on air DJ Christine. She explained that she takes all feedback regarding the representation of women seriously. She asked if there was anyone I wanted to hear. (Florence, Sleater Kinney, Big Thief, Middle Kids…..) Explained that she has been on radio since the 1990’s, often the only woman, and understands my frustration. She’s my heroine! Thank you, Christine, for taking me seriously. It IS an awesome station, and I’ll be tuning in more often. https://alt923.radio.com/hosts/christine

Kisses On Blankets By The Sea

song #1 for upcoming album (*)Asterisk

…Cotton candy clouds dangle from a periwinkle sky
The ferry bounces on a sequin sea toward the rainbow side
Where we will watch the queens dance around a pool that smells
like bleach
And I will write our names in the sand where ocean meets the beach
Long after the last grain of sand washes down the drain
And winter brings a policy of icy and dark change
I’ll dream of a place where we can be free
Oh, Kisses On Blankets By The Sea
It’s so easy for most people to love, just to be
No bloody nose, no broken ribs, no fractured dignity
The beach is made of sugar, waves of wine crash on sweet sand
When you don’t have to think before you hold your lover’s hand
I know of a place where we can be free.
Oh, Kisses On Blankets By The Sea….

Record Release Party. Rebounding From Insults.

Oh sheeet, I’m doing things a little backwards here! On September 25th, 2019 at 8:30pm in the basement of Unnameable Books in Brooklyn, I’ll be releasing my album that has YET TO BE RECORDED. Oy.

Hat-less. Happy again to play music after a little bump. I asked a former producer for advice on guitar sounds and instead he told me I can’t sing. Read on…..

I was invited to play, play anything, at the annual poetry/music festival hosted by the fabulous poetry arts magazine Boog City. Reviewing the festival dates and comparing them to my projected album release, by clairvoyance I saw the convergence of the two. The scary thing is I don’t have ESP. Well, I do to some extent, as I feel everyone does. It’s just not reliable enough to SCHEDULE events around.

Making demo of “Secret” today so my music friends can come over and play and sing! Video was from a recent jog and has absolutely nothing to do with song.
