Beats

It’s a bit washed out, but my pet bird hung out on my head for the first time as I explored the new possibilities of an old sound recording software.

Oh my gosh. Where do I begin? It’s like I’m stuck in a circle of excitement. I guess you have to jump in on a roundabout somewhere, so I’ll start with my LOVE of dance music.

House. Techno. Techno House. Bounce. Deep House. I feel neurons fire in my central nervous system. Maps of goose bumps emerge on my arms. The sounds massage my tense shoulders. Pulses in my circulatory system change. Beats, baby, beats. It’s what gets me from here to there and back through the monumental miles I drive every day.

And, I tell myself, one day, I don’t know how, I’m going to MAKE dance-ish music. The songs in my brain are going to merge with an electronic landscape. Just record, record on your modest home studio, and maybe some producer will mix beats into them…Or…If only…I had the software…but…you can’t record tracks INTO Reason…and I can’t get Logic cuz I’m a PC girl…and so I’m stuck in a circle. But this circle is a circle of inaction, impossibility.

I didn’t exactly drown in frustration, because other creative projects absorbed me. It’s just that this desire kept resurfacing. Jiving with my New Year’s Resolution, (“to live a more creative 2018 whatever the hell that means”), I began among other things to research beat making software again and….
I FUCKING HAD IT ALL THESE FUCKING YEARS. The PERFECT one for my needs. The one that I have been recording into can also MAKE FUCKING BEATS and you can reconcile both fucking worlds. OH. MY. GOSH.

So my 14 year old version of starter edition Cubase has some great instrument & drum sounds, but not more than, say, 100. Guess who just got the upgraded version???? I’m still waiting for my “key” to come in the mail. In the meantime, I’m playing around with my tried and tested version.

Markers, loops, midi sends, vst instruments, drum editor. Bit of a learning curve on adding midi tracks to the song, but I’m all in!

I’ve been immersed in figuring it all out. In the photo above, I don’t think I’d showered in two days, nor changed out of my pajamas even to walk the dog. AND the bird landed on my head. AND here’s a new song Kisses On Blankets By The Sea, written to my wife about our happy place. Cherry Grove.

Oh, right, time to dial down my glee. There’s a learning curve to this shit. And I haven’t yet copyrighted it. So here’s a teaser….just an intro. Loop it, baby!
