November 19th, 2023. The Feral Cats household has been BUSY recording THREE full length albums. One yet un-named album for me, and TWO for my prolific wife. 1/21/2023: I KNOW this is taking a LONG time, way longer than any of us hoped! I decided to hold off on mailing out the thumb drives until they are mastered. Date with master engineer set for the end of January. THANK YOU, THANK YOU generous and patient donors. We did NOT forget about you! It has been CHALLENGING to get this project done, including switching engineers, pandemic health issues thwarting many people involved, and budget issues. My intention isn’t to kvetch, just to express my appreciation for your empathy. All I can say is that in my opinion, Jakob Leventhal did a FABULOUS job mixing/post production on tracks that were expertly recorded at Cloud 9 Recording and I can’t WAIT to share.

1/20/2023: New show added, February 19

12/26/2022: Moxie Starpark mixing FINISHED. But for a few minor tweaks, the tracks are soon headed off to get mastered, with a February release date. For all our kickstarter pledges, thumb drives will get mailed out this week.

8-25-2022 MoxieStarpark update-Our first drafts are done! Next step, Jakob will get back to us with second draft mixes. Once he does this, it will all move quickly. We apologize for the delay. Backers will have their thumb drive songs by the end of October. Feel free to reach out privately with any questions on the process or why it’s taken 6 months longer than expected.

4-13-2022 update: Jakob finished the first draft mixes! We are beyond excited and impressed with his balance of pop and raw rock. I can’t WAIT for you to hear them, and to send our generous kickstarter donors their thumb drives filled with songs. Not sure why I under counted but we recorded 15 songs. “Take To Give” was nowhere near finished, so it looks like that could not be salvaged. However, Katy’s voice was perfectly captured, as were the drums. Maybe there’s a dance mix in the future as one of my side projects?

11-21-2021: Current projects- Still trying to write my way out of a matrix that will hopefully be my next solo album. By the way, did you know my last solo album called (*) got a rave review in a NYC poetry magazine? Cloud 9 Recording will resume mixing MoxieStarpark’s unreleased second album after Christmas, so I hope to make leeway on my new album, tentatively called “decay”, before then. Finishing up single “A Life Nouveau”, a custom request, taking over THREE MONTHS, hoping to have phenom guest singer. That’s all! Did you know a long time ago I played in band called Moxie? Later known as Moxie Starpark, we were an all female pop punk band from the little seaside hamlet of Bayville, NY. Some of our songs were featured on the soundtracks of Dawson’s Creek and Party of Five. Our debut album can now be streamed on Spotify >> YouTube> Apple Music>> and all major streaming services.

I played the Viola in fourth grade, but instead of going home and practicing the required opus, I’d screech out a new melody. Looking back, I was only 9 years old and I didn’t have any pop music influences. My parents didn’t listen to music at home, and I could barely pay attention to a full cartoon episode, let alone listen to the radio and figure out who’s who in the music world. At that early age, I wasn’t trying to emulate any idols or role models that I can think of. I was simply taken by the creativity of stringing notes together. I would go into a trance or something.

By 7th grade, I was more interested in hanging out with friends than staying in school until 5pm rehearsing with the orchestra. My parents cut me a deal. I could quit orchestra, but I had to take guitar lessons. Shelly Rukofsky would show me how to play Beatle’s songs, but during the week between my lessons, instead of practicing, I’d rearrange the chords and write new songs. By then, I was well aware of the music gods of that general time. Led Zeppelen, Janis Joplin, Donna Summers, Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles, The Sugar Hill Gang.

Fast forward many decades later. Like so many songwriters, I’ve started many many songs and finished comparatively few. But I am beyond proud to have crafted to completion a little collection over the past two to three years that comprise my new album. Sure, I wish I could have found other people to sing it, or had money for a pro studio & producer. If you read my blog, some of the entries explore the challenges I faced, including a couple of people I had to block on facebook. But hey, I did it, and I can no longer feel the sting on my nose from all of the doors that slammed it. The pain has been numbed by a sense of accomplishment, and replaced by encouragement from others.

If you’re wondering, the album title (*) comes from a decade old fascination that you can create a female phallic symbol with just two punctuation marks, the parentheses and the asterisk. Inspired by the bold cues of Pearl Jam (really, what the hell is “Pearl Jam” anyway?) I decided to go with it. Sure, I’ve caught myself telling people “it symbolizes the creative sexual female drive” or “the surprising persistence of lust through middle age”. But that’s just an overkill attempt to justify a simple symbol (*)
